Good news for 20 million WordPress blogs


Popular blog hosting site WordPress has revealed several new features over the past few weeks, mostly aimed at enhancing the experience for Windows 7 users and today is no different.

In a post on Microsoft’s official Windows blog, it was revealed that WordPress users can now experience pinning and jump list support for all of their blogs. This is good news for the 20 million WordPress blogs out there as other websites that use these features saw more page views and averaged longer time on site for visiting users. For example, Hi5 saw a 200% increase in activity, and Huffington Post saw a 49% increase in time spent on their site. In a world where hits are currency, this feature that is now enabled across all the WordPress sites, is good news for website owners.

Microsoft hopes to sell up to 100 million Windows Phone devices annually


Microsoft’s COO, announced during his keynote that the company hopes to sell up to 100 million Windows Phone devices annually. “We have dreams and aspirations that we can get to 100 million units per year with that single deal,” he said.

The software giant plans to mainly lean on Nokia, which agreed to switch to Windows Phone as its primary platform. Nokia’s first Windows phone is codenamed Sea Ray. At the conference, Microsoft also showed off four unannounced Windows phones from Acer, ZTE, Fujitsu, and Samsung, techspot report

Report : Microsoft fiscal year 2011 earnings

Microsoft Q4

Microsoft just reported record fourth quarter and fiscal year 2011 earnings today with yearly revenues at $69,94 billion, representing an increase of 12% from 2010. Operating income for the year was at $27.16 billion and net income was at $23.15 billion, 13% and 23% increases. Earnings per share for the year were at $2.69.

The company’s fourth quarter revenues were at $17.37 billion, an 8% increase year over year. Operating income was at $6.17 billion and net income was at $5.87 billion, a 4% and 30% increase respectively. Earnings per share were 69 cents.


Windows Live Essentials 2011 is updated


Microsoft has released an update to Windows Live Essentials 2011.

Microsoft says it has improved the included applications in terms of usability, performance, and stability. The update also includes full support for SSL in Windows Live Mail, and the latest Bing bar. The software giant also emphasized these three changes:

  • Windows Live Mail: a sorting issue in the Sent items folder has been fixed, plus the upload reliability and instrumentation in Photo mail has been improved.
  • Windows Live Messenger: stability issues have been fixed and various changes have been made to improve voice and video quality. An issue that was causing sound to be lost after upgrading has been fixed, as has performance when displaying the MSN Today page in the main window.
  • Windows Live Photo Gallery: various bug fixes for crashes related to launching Photo Gallery through Autoplay and facial recognition have been fixed.
